FAQ

1. Where can I buy your work?

You can buy my work at 50 local Pittsburgh galleries, on my website, or at my home gallery.

2. Do you ship?

Yes!  No matter where you are, we can ship all paintings and merchandise.

3. Can you paint my family portrait?

Due to the large amount of projects I am currently working on, I am not able to work on commission at this time.  Please check back in the future.

4.  Where did you go to art school?

I am a self-taught artist.  I began painting portraits at a young age and then transitioned into Pittsburgh scenes in 1989.  Over the course of my career, I have had the great opportunity to take some classes from artists Daniel Greene and Richard McKinley.  Both have helped me improve my technique and expand my artistic horizons.

5.  When did you start painting?

If you ask my mom, I've been painting from the time I was 18 months on.

More on that later...

6.  What are pastels?

Pastels are an art medium very close to chalk.  I use different size, shapes, and brands of pastels to create my paintings.

7.  Do you paint onsite or from pictures?

Prior to this past year, almost all of my paintings were created mostly based on photographs.  Before I start a painting, I take hundreds of pictures from pretty much every angle possible.  Since most of my paintings also include family and friends, I asked those interested to pose for me.  Once again, I take a ton of pictures, and piece everything together.

Recently, I have expanded my work to include landscape scenes.  These paintings are significantly different from my Pittsburgh scenes.  As such, they require different techniques and processes.  Most of these paintings are started outside, onsite.  After I have a base, I can take them back to my studio to finish.

8.  How long does it take you to complete a painting?

That depends on the painting.

For my Pittsburgh scenes, one painting can take up to 3 months to complete from conceptualizing to printing.

The landscapes are smaller, and in some ways more spontaneous.  Their process varies.  It can take a day or a couple of weeks.
